What is art? Are textiles art? For me, there is something about fibers and textiles that is both beautiful and comforting. I have always been creative but never thought of my work as art until I started weaving.
My work is inspired by the hilltown environment where I live and each weaving symbolizes a specific place or feeling. Often an image will come to me while I’m meditating or I will have a general idea of an image when I start weaving and it continues to develop while I work. Every day I am filled with awe by the beauty of the nature around me and it makes me want to give back, to reciprocate in some way by making something beautiful in return.
I work primarily with natural fibers and I am interested in experimenting with textures, colors and shapes. My work is meditative and meant to inspire the viewer to look beyond the physical image, to evoke a sense of connection with the natural world existing all around us. My wish is for my work to be calming and healing for the observer.
